Chaud Chic: Makeup #1

Hey y'all,

Something I haven't mentioned yet is that I am moderately involved in politics and often have to dress professionally for meetings and events for the organization I am in. It can be kind of tricky sometimes to keep my look together without letting it get in the way of my job. This is the first of several posts I plan to write about good products for this purpose.

In addition to the foundations I mentioned in my previous post, there are several items I like to use. This post will focus on lipstick.

A good lipstick can change your whole face from class to capitol in seconds. Y'all will soon discover from this blog that I am somewhat of a lipstick fanatic and this is kind of my signature thing. I use variety of drugstore and department store brands, depending on the weather and how long I will be at a given event.

In the event that the weather is more moderate, say if it's the evening or low humidity, I like to use Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge or Color Design. The colors are really great and Lancôme often has good deals and free gifts with purchase. Most of my rouge collection came from free gifts or sets.

Another lipstick I'm obsessed with is Mark Kay Creme Lipstick. It's less expensive than Lancôme, but still has good color and hold. It's got kind of a waxier texture than most lipsticks so it won't dry out as easily and tastes slightly of vanilla. Mary Kay has to be bought through a consultant, but you can order online at marykay.com and the website will find one in your area who can deliver to you.

Many times, however, you may be put in a situation where you will be required to keep your look all day or, if you live in a humid region like my parents, you may need a more hardy lip color.

J'adore Chanel.

I have never had a Chanel product fail me. This is no exception. The Rouge Double Intensité Ultra Wear Lipcolor is a win win if you want to shell out that kind of cash. The color coat goes on easily and the clear top coat is shiny, but not sticky.

I generally only buy more expensive items like this in special colors, because I love to wear many shades, so more commonly I will wear  this:

This is Covergirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor. It is much less pricey but delivers and I swear it will even stay on at the gym.

Sidenote: I have a very fair complexion and blue eyes, so I like to wear bright berries and reds in professional situations to bring that out. I've found if you're careful about the shade, you can really get away with bright colors in any setting. Don't be afraid to try out a new color. For example, here is a picture of me a few years ago (With darker hair! More on that later...) sporting the red shade I wore to class that day.

Until next time, stay cool, and be hot.

Saving Face

Hey y’all,
Today I’m going to discuss another important health and beauty issue.

Sunscreen. Without it, you are at risk of developing wrinkles, burns, and cancer. Three things that people generally steer clear of.
Protection from the sun is important on your whole body, but today I am going to focus on the face. One of the facial moisturizers I like is Neutrogena Healthy Defense because it isn’t as greasy as normal sun block and will also help prevent your skin from drying out.

An issue I sometimes find with facial sunscreen is that I like to wear foundation, and when the weather is gross outside, the last thing you need is many layers of goop on your face. Additionally, if you’re active and sweating, some sunscreens can sweat off, which is definitely no bueno. To solve this, I like to use foundation or powder foundation with SPF.
My all-time favorite drugstore liquid foundation is L’Oreal Infalliable Make-Up. It hold for 18 hours, and will not sweat off or even come off in the pool, but is easily removed with a cleanser. It also has an SPF 20 which will protect your face in lieu of a sunscreen. I use this product daily.

However, if you tend to have sensitive skin or breakout easily but still want to wear foundation, I recommend a powder.  My favorite is bareMinerals Original SPF 15 foundation.

This is definitely a splurge, but is well worth it. In high school I was very acne prone and this foundation really helped me save face. Literally. Sorry for the bad pun.
I will definitely be including products with SPF in future posts, as this is something that really makes a difference in your overall look for years to come. For those with fair skin or family histories of skin cancer, this is especially important.

Until next time, stay cool, and be hot.

Hey, y'all.

Living in various parts of Texas all my life and having nearly my entire family hail from the deep south, I’ve definitely had some issues with the summertime, also known down here as three-fourths of the year. The biggest challenge for me besides it just being plain hot is how to feel hot when the forecast of over 100 has me drenched in sweat. Hopefully in this blog I can explain how I’ve learned to address some of the issues that come with the weather on my campus, at my parent’s house, and anywhere else I may end up.
This is a co-authored blog, and the end of each post will be signed by either myself or my cohort, Mamie. She will introduce herself in her first post.
First of all, y’all, I’d to share the least exciting, but most important thing you must do to survive the heat looking decent. This may be a little self explanatory, but I can’t start a beauty blog without the most fundamental element.

That’s right. Water.
The number one problem with hot weather is dehydration. When you’re sweating so much, you lose too many fluids and your body will begin to retain water to compensate. Bloating. Is. Not. Fun. No matter what size you are -and that is something which absolutely does not define beauty- nobody likes the sensation of being puffy and not fitting into their jeans like they should.
Drinking enough water not only combats this, but flushes out impurities that would cause bloating even in a more moderate climate. In addition, water keeps your skin hydrated to avoid the dry flakiness that can come from drier air.
Most importantly, water keeps you healthy and going. I said that beauty could not be defined by size earlier. This is because I believe beauty to be defined by health. Therefore, I urge you to drink your full 8 glasses of water a day.
Side note: If you’re in college, I suggest you buy a cute water bottle to tote around school. They have some nice ones at Target and you can even get them with filters. This way you can fill up at the water fountain and not have to worry about paying for plastic bottles and it’s easier on the environment.
Until next time, stay cool, be hot.
