*By Request* HOW TO: Make Your Prom Unique

My good friend Derek White just asked a very lucky lady to prom in the most unique way I've ever heard. He used four easy steps. After revealing these steps to me, he asked me for any tips on making prom unique. As I thought of ideas I also knew I had to share them with our lovely readers as well. So in no particular order here are my top ten ways of making Prom unique.

1. Pre-Game-Ok don't get any ideas I don't mean drinking. I mean get really pumped before the prom. For guys this means having a bachelor like mini party with your male friends you're going to prom with. Play video games, hit the gym, get mani pedis(don't knock it until you try it), just have some guy time before you see the girls. For girls add the finishing touches to your makeup, watch a movie like Bridesmaids or Mean Girls avoid the sappy romances we want to be happy and excited for the big night.

2. Limo Party anyone?-Although renting a limo is common, what you do in that limo is what makes it unique. Bring games and candy. Have a Karaoke contest girls versus guys.

3. Dinner in The Park- Save money and time by not waiting for a table at a restaurant! Everyone bring something and enjoy a nice sunset dinner in the park. Bring decorative table cloth and center piece and your park dinner will be a nice little picturesque event out of a Martha Stewart magazine.

4. Pre Prom Mini Flash Mob - That's right you and your group bring your ipod and your speakers and practice your moves in a public setting. Try someplace like the mall,Target or Wal-Mart.

5. Pre Prom Pranks :3 - Just make sure they are harmless pranks that won't ruin anyones clothes or make anyone too upset. Like hide all the girls clutches leave "ransom" notes and lead them to the purses. Hide your corsages in the inside your dates bag. :) It's a nice little surprise.
Get one of your date's friend's to help you with this one. Call her phone with a voice disguise (call her on her friends phone its more convincing) and ask if she knows where said friend is. When she discovers her friend is missing lead her on a hunt into finding her friend.

6. Control Your DJ - If you really want your prom night to be jam filled with all your favor songs, make sure that DJ knows what you all want to hear. If you can contact him or her a few days before the big day and send them a suggested playlist.

7. Waking Up The Neighbors - The classic driving around your town with the sun/moon roof open and belt lyrics to the top of your lungs.

8. Connect on the dance floor-Don't just dance with the people you came with dance with everyone. Ask for songs like the Casper Slide Remix. Fun and corny from the 90's. If you're not sweating, you're not having fun!

9. 24 hour hangout-Bring towels for this one. After the prom go to the nearest 24 hour store, buy desserts (if you're at Wal-Mart go to the TV's and watch a movie some Wal-Marts are cooler than others though so bring a laptop!) and just sit down and eat and recap your favorite moments from the night.

10. AFTER PARTYING IT UP - the best part about prom is what you do when it's over. Grab a late night bite at Waffle House, midnight showing of a movie, go bowling, play a Dancing Game at someone's home or lake home. Late Night swim, beach after party whatever just have fun.

Prom 101: The Dress

So prom is ALMOST here!! I had so much fun at my prom with my friend Catherine. We went together because there are no teenage boys in our school that could handle us. In fact I've noticed a lot of girls have been going with friends. There is nothing wrong with not going to prom with the boy or girl of your dreams. All you need are friends that are special to you. Like I've said in pervious post, I come from a strict family. I couldn't go to dances until senior year. So prom was a pretty big deal for me.
Moving on to the real topic PROM DRESS! I have been salivating over the designs by Sherri Hill. Her dresses are in the pricey range, but that's okay by the end of this post I will have covered all price ranges for dresses.
This was my prom dress it was floor length gown
Pink dress with lace overlay
This was a royal purple strapless dress with a 3 tired ruffled skirt
Just to give you a run down of what you can do for prom and other special events I've posted the dresses I wore to Homecoming, Christmas Affair, and Prom. These dresses were all made by my mother for my girls that can sew here are the pattern numbers for each dress in the order you see them in: Butterick (discounted),Simplicity(4070),Simplicity(discounted).

For prom dress shopping you can either go into a store and schedule an appointment for fittings etc., find your dress at a thrift shop, make your dress, or shop online.

Before you actually go shopping or looking at any dresses try to already have in mind what type of dress you might want. Ask yourself questions like:

What color dress do I want?
Do I want a strapless dress, a dress with straps, a halter dress, or an asymmetrical strap dress?
Do I want a floor length gown, an hi-low gown, or short dress?
Do I want a flowing dress, a tight dress, or a bubble shaped dress?

I HIGHLY recommend Sherri Hill. Lots of celebrities wear her dresses as well. She also custom designs some of Selena Gomez's dresses.

Forever 21 and Windsor Store also makes wonderful affordable prom dresses.

A lot of girls, for better or worst, treat their prom dress like their per-wedding dress. They take great pride in their dress and some go to great lengths to obtain a one of a kind dress. That is not what prom is about. It's about having fun and creating memories before you and your classmates all go your separate ways. So for those of you still at conflict with finding your perfect dress here are some suggestions to give you a little inspiration.

My favorite color. Plus this dress is simple but great.

The Mamie Winehouse Cat Eyeliner

I created an Amy Winehouse inspired cat eye look that is actually more wearable versus her super dramatic cat eye.
I just used three items: bhcosmetics gel eyeliner in onyx, Ecotools Slanted Eyeliner Brush, and L'Oreal Smoldering Eyeliner.
The Facebook Profile Photo that started it all

Funny story is that this look was created because of my bad hair day. My hair literally put itself in that poof so I told my hair "if you want to be Amy Winehouse, fine you can be Amy Winehouse,". Coming back to my dorm from class I decided to mess around with my makeup not caring what anyone thought, I decided to upload a picture I had taken of myself and make it my profile picture. Little did I know that people would actually like it. :)
So for all my friends that wanted this look here you go, I hope you enjoy. Click Me for the Makeup Tutorial

Spring Nail Polish Must Haves!

I love nail polish, for now anyway. I went through stages in my life where I would collect nail polish use it all the time, and switch up my nail color every saturday night. Of course I never followed my mom's advice and always painted them late at night, so when I woke my nails looked awful...o memories. But now I must admit sometimes I still wait till the last minute to do my nails (bad girl, yes I know). For those you wanting to try new nail polish colors this season I thought I share my favor of the spring season. Personally, my favor color is pink therefore my favorite nail polish color is hot pink. I found the perfect hot pink color from Sinful Colors in 24/7. Pastels are always go to spring colors. Some people even use their nail polish to coordinate with there clothing. I personally prefer my clothing (since I am a college student I mostly wear sweatpants and t-shirts) and nail polish colors to speak for themselves.
An overview of my go to Spring Colors

These polishes are all by Essie
Borrowed and Blue
Mint Candy Apple
Turquoise and Caicos
These pastel blues are a great transition to summertime as well. My friends personally don't like Borrowed and Blue, I think it's beautiful and resembles a cloud it's almost like a white with a sky blue mixed in. I know it's a blue color but it looks really white and washed out with a small trace of blue.

Mint Candy Apple is a very popular color and to some it looks like the Tiffany and Co. boxes every girl dreams about receiving. Personally, while I love this color I believe Turquoise and Caicos is more true to the Tiffany and Co. Box, but that's just my opinion.

L'Oreal Nail Colors
410 'Orange
102 Boozy Bruch
I know what you're thinking, but I promise you these are in fact two different colors. 'Orange is a neon orange. While its sister Boozy Bruch is a pastel cream orange. Orange is actually a very popular color in fashion this season (although many of my fashionista friends detest the color orange). I feel that orange is just unfamiliar to my friends. Looking back of my life I literally can count on my hands how many orange items of clothing I have owned. It has never been a popular color (since I've been alive all 19 years) and I suppose there is no time like the present to make orange happen.

L'Oreal
480 Breaking Curfew

Breaking Curfew is perfect for what its name suggest. This is definitely the night time color to own. I have gotten loads of compliment with this color and I have to agree with my friends. I'm not sure how but this color just makes my hands pop and a lot of people seem to notice as well. I prefer bright neons and pastels, but this blood red vamp-tastic color just seems to really demand attention.

Sinful Colors 24/7
Essie Status Symbol
Sally Hansen Fuchsia Power
O. P. I.  Pink Friday
I had first in 24/7 of my friends nails in a Facebook picture in October, five months later I was able to FINALLY get my hands on the color. It dries really weird looking but with a top coat of clear nail polish it was perfectly Barbie pink.
I wanted to pick of Pansy by Essie from my local Ulta, but of course it sold out so I opted with Status Symbol. It's a really nice bubble gum pink.
Just like its name says Fuchsia Power is a really nice bright fuchsia color perfect for the spring into summer transition.
I am a HUGE Nicki Minaj fan, in fact my twitter name is @MamieMinaj (FOLLOW ME) and also follow our blog @Hotintheheat (PLEASE) ;) ..Back to Pink Friday this is a perfect compliment to her MAC lipstick Pink Friday. It's a very nice light baby pink but it does streak and it's not too unique there are many dupes to this color.

O. P. I. Gargantuan Green Grape
Revlon 571 Posh
China Glaze Paper Chasing
My mom was a big fan of Gargantuan Green Grape. Neither the picture nor the actual color in the bottle gives justice to how beautiful this color will look on your nails. It is the PERFECT pastel green and almost looks as if it could glow under a black light.
I saw a picture of Olivia Wilde wearing Posh for a revlon ad and immediately wanted the color. It is a perfect green ivy color that I thought would look pretty "posh" at a party and a simple girl's night.
Paper Chasing is just a sheer green color, it's not opaque, meaning you can see through the color. Its has a shimmer to it that reflects in the light beautifully.

I think these are great springtime colors. If you don't have an Ulta, you can still get some O. P. I. products at Kroger's, H. E. B. (if you live in Texas), or online at Amazon. I suggest buying nail polish from Wal-Mart. I know a lot of girls shop at Target, but Wal-Mart is actually a lot cheaper when it comes to makeup. I only shop at Target when absolutely necessary or to buy makeup ONLY sold at Target.

Hope this helps

HOW TO: Make Your Own Chip Bag Dress

I have no idea why I don't look more pleasant. The camera is not doing my makeup any justice
During my Senior of high school my fashion design teacher gave me a challenge: create a dress made out of chip bags for the prom fashion show. Before creating my dress I tried for weeks trying to find tutorials and tips on how to create such a dress. I was discouraged when I read that a fashion designer said sewing chip bags together was impossible. For some reason I still went to Joann's fabric and craft store and bought clear fishing thread. My approach to this project was to treat it like the Kool-Aid bags that were all the rage in Elementary school. On a side note my mom never let me get on because it was too "trendy" and didn't want to waste the money. She knew I wouldn't use it after it went out of style. For some reason I remembered those Kool-Aid bags and how they were stitched together in a crisscross or zigzag stitch. My teacher gave me a dress form and from there I started my project. I used Andy Capp's Hot Fries for my torso and put darts in between the bags to conform to my body. Afterwards I began to plan the top. I decided to make it one shouldered and added a diamond effect. I added darts to the chest area of the dress as well.  The most challenging part was the skirt. Making a bubble effect was very time consuming, Nonetheless, I enjoyed this part the most because it was all trail and error. For the finishing touches I trimmed the dress in zebra print duct tape. Zebra is my favorite print so I had to incorporate into my dress somehow. Using hot glue I bound the dress together using velcro, this was not as easy as i thought it would be and it actually started falling apart after the fashion show. So I would use either really strong super glue or add ribbons and tie them together really tight on the side and try to conceal them.
Look at me in action !
I felt so accomplished after creating this dress because I was told it was not possible to sew the bags together and I proved that person wrong!! This dress is about you and your creativity. Don't be afraid to make this your own and just have fun. It's your night and you deserve to make the most of those memories. I wore this dress for a prom fashion show and it was a hit!

Target Haul!

So Spring Break is over for me and I have eight more weeks of school until my nightmare is over. But before I came back to school I stopped by Target and picked up some make up essentials. I didn't bring my entire makeup collection with me and I realized that I forgot to bring with me a lot of essentials. Buying these items were actually kinda therapeutic for me. When I came back to my dorm I changed my bed sheets and refilled my plug in air fresheners. It's amazing how such small changes can improve a bad situation. Not having a roommate has made my dorm my favorite place.

This is the Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent for Sensitive Skin. It's for helping clear and prevent acne.

My sister informed me of my mustache I was so embarrassed I had to pick this up.
It's the beauty trim personal hair trimmer. Good for the bikini line, eyebrows, toes, and face.

I am REALLY excited to try this. It's the Maybelline Illegal Length mascara. It's supposed to add on 4 millimeters of lash fiber. I honestly stick to drug store mascaras because my experience with higher end mascaras with the exception of the MAC Zoom lash has been horrific. I LOVE Maybelline Falsies. Maybelline's current line of mascaras have been receiving pretty good reviews. I suggest Soft and Full, Lash Stiletto, Falsies, One by One, and Great Lash. Fun Fact: Every 24 seconds a Maybelline Great Lash mascara is sold in America making it America's #1 mascara.

This is an E. L. F.  complexion brush used for applying face products. I will use this as my powder brush for my finishing powder. It can also be used to buff out your liquid foundation as well.

This is the Neutrogena healthy skin pressed powder SPF 20.
I'm using this in combination with my liquid foundation to prevent it from sliding off of my face throughout the day.

This is one of the products I was really excited to purchase. I have tried MANY other marker liners. They have created lots of irritation on my eyes. I remembered using L'Oreal's Voluminous Eyeliner Mistake-Proof Marker. This product glides on like a dream. It has a felt tip so you can create a line as subtle or dramatic as you want.

I didn't have a pencil sharpener and my eyebrow pencil is running low so I thought what a perfect time to invest in one.

This Sonia Kashuk eye makeup remover is the best makeup remover for the money. It gets the job done without irritating my eyes. The best part is it doesn't sting when it gets into my eyes. My personal all time favorite is Lancome Bi Facil eye remover, but $26.50 is a bit pricy.

This is the Ecotools Eye Make Over 6 piece set. I suggest this product to anyone just starting out with makeup. If you don't want to spend your money on expensive brushes Ecotools is a great substitute. It comes with all the brushes need to achieve a perfect eye makeup look.

Finally I brought Sonia Kashuk's foundation round sponges. I use these to apply and even out my foundation and concealer.

I can't wait to try these new products and reuse all my favorites.
